Summer Writers Internship 2024
Closed Positions
THE ROLE
Write a feature-length comedy script about college students that will be produced in 2025.
Work within a writers room of 4 interns total.
Create options for potential character traits that will be co-designed with our participatory audience (click here to see what co-design means and here to see what our audience has already decided on).
Work in a hybrid capacity, with 1-3 in person meetings weekly in Los Angeles, CA.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Interns will be expected to work 20-25 hours per week in a hybrid capacity.
Attend 1-3 mandatory weekly meetings with the other interns and the Sticky Feet Productions team.
Communicate frequently with other writers.
Submit pages weekly.
Complete a draft of a feature-length script (75-100 pages) by the end of the 10 weeks.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be actively enrolled in a U.S. college or a recent college graduate.
Authorized to work for any employer in the United States and will not require work visa sponsorship from Sticky Feet Productions.
Ability to work well with a team.
Self-starter who can successfully meet deadlines while in a hybrid work setting.
Flexibility. In addition to working with the Sticky Feet Productions team and other writer interns to create the script, there will also be co-designed elements of the script related to the movie characters that will be determined by the film’s participatory audience. This is unlike any writing process you've learned about in class. A good attitude and ability to receive feedback is critical.
WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE APPLYING
The duration of the summer internship is 10 weeks. We will choose program dates based on the schedule of preferred candidates from the following options (AKA from our side, the dates are fairly flexible):
May 19 - July 27
May 26 - August 3
Jun 2 - August 10
Interns will be paid biweekly, with a total of $3,580.5 by the end of the 10 weeks. Here’s how we got to this number: According to the WGA 2023 Low Budget Agreement, for films with a budget under $200,000, 25% of the minimum (the minimum being $57,289) set forth in the WGA Schedule of Minimums for an Original Screenplay, Excluding Treatment must be paid to the (single) screenwriter writing the screenplay. 25% of said minimum is $14,322. For our film, however, we will have four writers collaborating together instead of one. Therefore, we will pay each writer $14,322 divided by 4, which is equal to $3,580.5.
Our expected budget for this film is $400,000. According to the WGA 2023 Low Budget Agreement, for films with a budget between $200,000 and $499,999, 50% of the minimum set forth in the WGA Schedule of Minimums for an Original Screenplay, Excluding Treatment must be paid to the (single) screenwriter writing the screenplay. 50% of said minimum is $28,645, and with four writers instead of one, this minimum would be $7,161.25. Right now our actual budget (what we’ve spent on this film so far) is nowhere near $200,000. However, once we cross $200,000 in spending for this project, we will send an additional check to our four writers to make up the difference. This would be $7,161.25 minus the initial payment at the end of the summer internship of $3,580.5, which equals an additional check of $3,580.75 per writer.
We cannot provide course credit.
Relocation is not provided but we can assist you with finding short-term housing for the summer.
Interviewing will take place on a rolling basis from March through mid-April.
All applicants will receive a status update by April 30.

WHO WE ARE
Sticky Feet Productions is a film production company that creates and distributes co-designed films: films that foster a collaborative online and in-person participatory audience that may choose, suggest, and influence production decisions of ongoing projects. We know what audiences want because we ask them outright and make it happen. We aspire to become a powerhouse independent production company like A24, foster a nationwide audience community that can participate in our projects like Star Wars Uncut, and establish a new standard of inclusivity, centering diverse audience opinions, for the film industry like Fenty Beauty did, centering darker skinned customers, for the makeup industry.
For now though, we are thrilled to be producing our first feature film after what started as a college experiment in 2022. As UNC-Chapel Hill college students, we used Instagram polls and campus tabling to give our peers a say in the plot of our comedy short film, produced by co-founder Avni Singh and starring co-founder Shelby Armstrong. One year later, our theater premiere sold out and we knew we were onto something special. After graduating college, Avni and Shelby spent Fall 2023 on a university tour - surveying over 1000 students about the plot of our next film, refining the co-design methodology, and hosting co-designed filmmaking workshops. We can’t wait to meet you, expand our team, and begin writing this project!
